The Vegas Golden Knights have made sure captain Mark Stone will remain in Vegas beyond the upcoming season. The team announced Saturday that Stone has signed a two-year contract extension worth $9 million per season. The deal will begin in 2027-28 and run through the 2028-29 season, keeping the 34-year-old forward with the Golden Knights for two more years after his current contract expires.

Stone is entering the final season of his eight-year, $76 million deal, which he signed with Vegas after being acquired from the Ottawa Senators in 2019. Without the extension, he would have been set to become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season.
The new contract comes after Stone put together a strong 2025-26 campaign. He recorded 28 goals and 73 points in 60 regular-season games, both part of another productive season for the veteran winger. He added seven goals and 12 points in 17 playoff games as Vegas reached the Stanley Cup Final.

Stone has played 400 regular-season games for the Golden Knights since joining the franchise in 2018-19. During that stretch, he has scored 136 goals and 396 points, putting him third on the franchise’s all-time points list.
He is only 21 points behind Jonathan Marchessault’s franchise record of 417 points. Stone also remains one of the team’s most important leaders and already has a Stanley Cup on his résumé after helping Vegas win the championship in 2023.
The veteran has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but he has appeared in at least 60 games in each of the past two seasons. His production has also remained strong, giving Vegas another reason to keep its captain around beyond his current contract.
Stone previously made it clear that retirement was not on his mind. “I want to keep playing as long as I can,” he said on June 16, adding that he had “no intention” of cutting his career short.
With the extension now official, the Golden Knights have secured their captain for two more seasons beyond the upcoming campaign.
