Railway probe blames MIDC’s unauthorised construction method for Trans Harbour line cave-in
A Central Railway probe revealed that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) deviated from approved methods for an underground pipeline, causing a June 24 ground cave-in near Turbhe and Kopar Khairane. Instead of micro-tunnelling, MIDC allegedly used a pipe-pushing technique, weakening soil and disrupting Trans Harbour line services for hours. Penalties are now being initiated against MIDC, with a revised completion date set for January 2026.
