Vegetable oil imports jump 51% in September: Surge in crude palm oil drives growth; refined shipments fall to zero

India’s vegetable oil imports surged 51% in September to 16.39 lakh tonnes, driven by a significant increase in crude palm oil shipments. This rise followed a government decision to widen the import duty gap, making refined oil imports unviable and leading to zero refined palmolein imports for the first time since 2021.
