General Atlantic nears 7% stake deal in Balaji Wafers; $282mn bet values firm at $4bn

US private equity firm General Atlantic is set to acquire a 7% stake in Balaji Wafers for approximately Rs 2,500 crore, valuing the snack maker at nearly Rs 35,000 crore. Founder Chandu Virani confirmed the deal, citing the new generation’s desire for strategic capital to scale up. Balaji Wafers, a dominant regional player, plans future IPOs.
