Rupees gains 17 paise to 85.40 against US dollar on lower oil prices following Moody’s US rating downgrade

The Indian rupee strengthened to 85.40 against the US dollar, fueled by a weaker dollar index and lower crude oil prices. Moody’s downgrade of the US credit rating further pressured the dollar. Despite positive FII inflows and rising forex reserves, weak domestic equities capped the rupee’s gains as traders remained cautious of trade deficit pressures.
